THE PATH TO VOLUNTEERING
WHAT DOES JOINING AYSO MEAN?
AYSO Region 4 is 100% volunteers. Our Board of about 22 volunteers runs the Region providing a soccer program for over 1,300 kids! Board members enjoy what they do but we always can use additional help and you can see why. Choosing to volunteer for the board can be selected in your account on the left menu or when registering a player.
AYSO also relies on volunteers for the Team "Staff" positions - Coach, Referee, Team Manager. We need these these volunteers to form teams and provide soccer for as many kids as possible (we often have waitlists). We provide training, information and advice for all the Team Staff volunteer positions and you certainly don’t need to have a detailed knowledge of soccer or sports to get started. All you need is a willingness to help make a difference – knowing whatever your role, you’re going to impact the lives of kids and improve the quality of life in our communities. Team Staff positions can be selected in your account on the left menu or when registering a player.
Then within teams there are Team "Roles" to help share the needs of their team such as Field set-up/Takedown, Banner person, etc. All Team Role positions are selected at Team meetings or via communication with your coach.
IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT REFEREES
For 10U-14U teams, please be aware of the need for Referees and the points they earn to qualify the team for post-season play. If your child is playing in the 10U, 12U or 14U divisions it is important to be aware that their team cannot qualify for post-season play without accumulating at least 9 referee points so every team should have 1-2 trained referee volunteers set before games start. Referees are as important as the coaches. We do not pay referees to work the games and solely rely on volunteers. We provide training online and in-person in August. Being a referee is a great way to be closer to the kids and action, learn the game, and make new friends.
ENRICHING LIVES - ENHANCING COMMUNITIES
When you volunteer you help AYSO deliver on its Vision to provide programs that enrich children's lives. , volunteers also directly benefit by learning new skills, making new friends and enhancing communities. Please consider exploring Registered Volunteer positions (Team Staff and Board) - no assistance is too small. Additionally there are Team Roles every family is expected to assist with over the course of the season.
