- Q: this is our first time playing AYSO or in Region 4. What do I need to do?
A: You will need to upload a document for age verification to the website (e.g., birth certificate, baptismal certificate, immunization record). If the player is going to be in 10U or 12U, please have them attend an in-person event as well so that we can evaluate their skills. Please note that this is not a tryout. Everyone who registers will get to play. This is to help us balance the teams, which is one of AYSO's core Philosophies.
- Q: I can't log in, or I am logged in but I don't see my participant's information.
A: If you have forgotten your username or password, request to reset your password or retrieve your account username at the login page. DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. If you create a second account, it will not be linked to your child's registration, and you will not be able to view your team page or your child's registration information. Email [email protected] to have multiple accounts merged, or if issues persist.
- Q: My spouse registered my child, how do I log into their account?
A: The Primary Account User can invite you to be an Additional Account User. From the Primary Account User's My Account screen, click on the gear icon in the upper right, to "Edit Account Info". Scroll to bottom of Primary Parent/Guardian Info page and click on "Add Additional Account Holder". An invitation will be sent to the Additional Account User with a link to create their own login for the shared account.
- Q: My child is on a wait list, when will I know if he/she is placed on a team?
A: We believe that the best way to learn soccer is to play soccer. That is why we have limits on roster sizes in our programs - so that every child gets equal playing time. We are an all-volunteer run organization and the number of players we can place on teams each season depends on the number of volunteer coaches we have available to lead those teams. Division Directors work tirelessly each season to recruit volunteer coaches and help them complete coach training, so that we can place as many players from the wait list as possible. We are an all-volunteer run organization, and are always looking for more coaches. You can better your child's chance of being placed on a team sooner, by volunteering to coach. When we can place your child on a team, you will receive an email notification with instructions to log into your account and pay the registration fee to confirm their spot. We are usually able to place most, if not all wait-listed players
- Q: OK I've registered my player. Now what?
A: After the registration period closes, the AYSO Region 4 board forms teams based on the number of coaches and referees who have volunteered. These team rosters are presented to coached in late July. Until then, sit tight. You should expect to hear from your coach around the end of July to hold a team meeting. In the meantime, have you considered volunteering as a coach, referee, team manager or the region board? We are 100% volunteers and need all the help we can get!
- Q: What is my child's team assignment?
A: Before players can be assigned to Core teams, the Region 4 recruits and trains parent volunteers to be coaches, team parents, and referees. Recruiting and training enough volunteers to lead all the Core teams takes time, and team rosters are usually released to coaches in mid-July. To help us get teams assigned quickly, please Sign Up to Volunteer. You do not need to have previous coaching experience, and you do not need to have been an elite soccer player to be a great coach or referee. AYSO has developed special training to help volunteers who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to become outstanding coaches and refs. If you cannot volunteer as a coach, there are a lot of other positions that need to be filled each season, from team parents to board members. Don't sit back and wait for someone else to make next season happen, step up and make it happen by signing up as a volunteer!
- Q: How do I volunteer?
A: There are many volunteer roles that need to be filled each year. It takes the work of many to make each soccer season happen. We are always looking for more help, especially coaches and referees. No prior experience is necessary for any volunteer role, we provide all the training you will need. To sign up to volunteer, log into your account and add the volunteer role of your choice by searching for "Find Volunteer Roles" in the Volunteer tab in your account. Volunteers must sign up every year for their preferred role. A level II background check is run as part of the volunteer registration for every AYSO volunteer, every year.
Have questions about becoming a Region 4 volunteer? Contact your Division Director or our Regional Commissioner at [email protected].
- Q: Does my child have to play in the assigned division?
A: The player is assigned to a division based on the year of birth. We will only consider allowing them to play in a different one in very rare circumstances, and only if the player wants to "play up" (play in an older division). Requests to play in a younger division are not allowed due to AYSO's National Policy. Please contact the division director for details.
- Q: Who will be on my team?
A: For 6U players are assigned to teams randomly. From 7U and up, ratings from previous season coaches or evaluation sessions are used to ensure the teams are relatively balanced in terms of skill. AYSO is committed to balancing teams every season to ensure that every child has a safe and positive experience.
- Q: Can my child be placed on the same team as his/her friends?
A: One of AYSO's six core philosophies is Balanced Teams. In order to maintain balanced teams across each Core division, we build new teams each year in the Core program, with players assigned to teams at random. This keeps our Core league play fair and fun for everyone. AYSO guidelines state that the only players that can be assigned to a specific coach are the coach’s own children. If it is important for your child to be on the same team as another child, you may choose to coach or become an assistant coach for the team your child desires to be a part of. A popular option is for the parents of two players in the same age division to elect to co-coach a team together, thereby ensuring that their children will be assigned to the same team for that year. Note that siblings who play in the same age group will be placed on the same team (exceptions may apply).
- Q: When are games and practices?
A: That depends on which program and division your child is enrolled.
Core Teams: The Saturday game schedules will be posted to your team's Team Central page before the start of the season. 6U, 7U and 8U will have one practice per week starting a few weeks before the first game. 10U, 12U and 14U Core divisions will have two practices per week starting a few weeks before the first game. Each team's coaches set their own practice day, time and location, and will communicate with families after teams are formed in late July. The Core 16U and 19U Assistant Commissioner will contact coaches with practice and game schedules before the start of the season.
Schoolyard: 5U Schoolyard groups meet Saturday mornings (alternatively a Monday group is formed for the season) for one combined practice/game session and do not have a mid-week practice. Your preferred day can be selected during registration. **Schoolyard group times have not been determined for the Fall 2023 season. We will notify all registered families of the group times available as soon as the Fall 2020 season can be scheduled with certainty.
EPIC/VIP: The EPIC Program Director will communicate the season schedule to VIP families before the start of the season.
- Q: What if my child can't make it to practice?
A: Practices are important for your player and the team’s development. Let the coach know if your child will miss a practice or game. If your child will miss all of the practices, first talk to the coach. Then email the Division Director to see if a team switch may be possible.
- Q: What else does my child need?
A: The Core 6U-19U, 5U Schoolyard, and EPIC registration fees include: complete uniform - jersey, shorts, socks; supplemental accident insurance. In addition, you need to obtain shoes, shin guards, a soccer ball for practice, and a water bottle. Players are required to wear shin guards at all practices and games. Soccer cleats are highly recommended for proper footing on fields. Specific ball size and details about game play and fields on the pages for your Division.
- Q: I need to cancel my child's registration. Can I get a refund?
A: Please refer to our Refund Policy. Email your request to withdraw to the Registrar at [email protected]
A child may not participate in AYSO Region 4 programs once (s)he has been withdrawn. Coaches are not authorized to allow a withdrawn player to rejoin their teams.
- Q: My child really wants to play, but I'm not sure we can afford it?
A: For families on limited finances, we do offer a small number of scholarships. Please email [email protected] for details.
- Any other questions?
A: Please email [email protected] for questions regarding registration. For other questions please email your division director or contact a board member (contact info on the Board Member page).
